The parents and children at YWCA Northeast Indiana Domestic Violence Crisis Shelter had an end of the Academic Year Party June 1, thanks to three community organizations.

The Indiana-Michigan Girl Scout troop 00273, and the Fort Wayne Police and Fire Departments came together to give the kids and adults a celebration to remember. The Girl Scouts had put together an assortment of water games, face painting for the kids, and all the side dishes for a picnic. The Fort Wayne Police Department, brought hamburgers, hot dogs, piñatas and a cruiser for the kids to tour. The Fort Wayne Fire Department, from Station 12, had a tug of war with the Girl Scouts and they also brought their ladder truck which the kids got to tour and see the ladder extended.

Girl Scout Troop leader Nancy Button, GSUSA #00273 Bronze Award Coordinator, explained the girls put together the party as a step in earning their Bronze Award. “It takes 30 total hours which includes the girls working through a three-part badge about team building and working in the community,” said Button.
