July-September letter from Paula Hughes-Schuh

As we move into the summer season, the YWCA is moving into a new chapter as well. I am excited to share the news we have entered into a strategic alliance with the Women’s Bureau, an organization that has been serving women since 1976. The staff is excited at the challenging opportunity to become the leading women’s organization in northeast Indiana. The Women’s Bureau has three programs that will move under the YWCA’s umbrella: Dress for Success, REACT, and Transitions. Dress for Success is a referral based suiting boutique that also offers career prep. REACT is a rape and sexual assault hotline and offers therapy. Transitions is an addictions treatment program for women and their children – it’s the first of its kind in the state.

What does this mean for the YWCA and our current clients? It means more clients walking through our front door receiving services to help move them from crisis and into self-sufficiency. It means more women reunited with their children and families.  It means more children removed from cycles of violence and addiction. The YWCA will continue our high level of care and services to women and families who need it most, simply on a larger scale. Keep up with our new programs through YWCA emails, Facebook, and the website.

As I come in and out of the same front door as our clients week after week, I am humbled to think how one different choice or circumstance in life could have put me in their shoes. It renews my commitment to lead this organization to be its best for our clients, staff, and the community. Without supporters like you, my job would be much harder. I continue to be amazed by the generosity of our community. Thank you for taking a moment to read this newsletter before you head outside to enjoy your summer. It’s a summer of growth at the YWCA!
